Manajer Arsenal, Arsene Wenger, mengungkapkan harapannya jelang leg 1 semifinal Liga Europa melawan Atletico Madrid, Jumat dini hari WIB, 27 April 2018. Laga ini bakal berlangsung di Emirates Stadium.
Wenger memutuskan mundur sebagai manajer Arsenal, akhir musim ini. Manajer asal Prancis ini berharap laga melawan Atletico, bukan laga terakhirnya di Eropa.
“Saya harap, ini bukan pertandingan antarklub Eropa terakhir untuk saya. Saya ingin bermain di Eropa lagi,” kata Wenger seperti dilansir Soccerway.
“Saya belum pernah beristirahat (dari dunia manajemen sepakbola) selama 35 tahun. Saya rasa saya begitu kecanduan,” ujar manajer 68 tahun ini.
Wenger sudah menjadi nakhoda Arsenal selama 22 tahun. Sebelumnya, dia sempat menangani Nancy, AS Monaco, dan Nagoya Grampus Eight.
“Saat saya mulai berkarier di usia 33 tahun, saya tak pernah berpikir bisa bertahan dalam pekerjaan ini. Rasanya aneh jika nantinya saya tak bekerja,” ucap Wenger.
Sampai saat ini, Wenger belum mengungkapkan rencananya jika sudah tak melatih Arsenal. Fokusnya saat ini adalah menangani The Gunners.
